Cervical Barrier Advancement Society (CBAS)

The Cervical Barrier Advancement Society (CBAS) was developed in parallel with the Methods for Improving Reproductive Health in Africa (MIRA) clinical trial. The aim is to raise the profile of cervical barrier methods for pregnancy prevention and to provide information about research on the potential of cervical barriers to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. CBAS was established as a resource for women, providers, researchers, advocates, and policy makers, and since 2003 membership has grown to over 500. We produce quarterly newsletters highlighting the most current research on cervical barriers and news articles and events related to female-controlled HIV prevention methods. Other activities include developing and updating educational materials and serving as a resource for information on cervical barriers.
