Review of the literature on sexual behavior and knowledge in South Africa

In collaboration with the Aurum Institute for Health Research, Ibis is summarizing the current state of published and, where available, unpublished data or work in progress on the sexual behaviors and related practices and beliefs of South Africans. The end product will be a comprehensive literature review of current knowledge and will include research undertaken in the last 15 years when HIV incidence increased dramatically in South Africa, with an emphasis on data from the last 10 years. The review will be organized by key variables such as: demographics (age, race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic grouping, etc.), study design (cross-sectional, longitudinal, convenience sample, random sample, quantitative, qualitative), sampling frame (community, clinic-based, convenience, geographic, random), and the outcomes evaluated (behaviors, beliefs, and other relevant sexually related practices).

A publication is expected in 2008.
