Developing and evaluating a health care provider intervention to improve young women’s sexual and reproductive health in Soweto, South Africa

Ibis is conducting formative research at one or two large public primary health care clinics in Soweto, South Africa, on providers’, community stakeholders’, and young women’s attitudes toward young women’s (aged 16-24) sexuality and reproductive health service access. This research will inform the development of an intervention that will give providers in-depth, detailed information about young women’s sexuality and reproductive health needs and risks and expand support for their increased access to information and services. The intervention will include a technical training module on young women’s reproductive health risks and need for services and modified values-clarification training. Ibis is collaborating with the Perinatal HIV Research Unit in Soweto on this project.
